Model-maker Barry Evans says the integrated family health centre model was “a challenge and a pleasure to work on.”
Barry’s model will be unveiled at the project’s open day at the Takaka Fire station between 11am and 4pm on Monday. (See display ad p19)
“Not everyone can interpret plans and visualise what a building is going to look like,” said Barry. “In my working life I was a building designer and also I contracted to drawing engineering plans. I did forestry and geological mapping too; it’s all part of the same process.”
Barry spent “100-plus hours” over a three- or four-week period on the model and said it used a fair amount of cardboard, coloured paper and a lot of PVA glue.
IMG spokesperson Linda Sanders says that they are delighted with the level of Barry’s professionalism in producing the model and really appreciate the donation of his time.
Barry and his wife Dorothy, a former nurse, have been retired in Golden Bay for about 15 years. Dorothy’s family came from Bainham so she feels she has come home in a sense.
Both say they were already supporters of the integrated health project and the model has simply reinforced their belief that the existing hospital is the “logical and sensible” place for the newly integrated services to be housed.
