Tash Batten offers an extensive mouth-watering menu for fine food aficionados and caters for “any taste, style or budget—anywhere, anytime”.
The Takaka-based caterer came from a family catering business in Christchurch and began working as a chef at 16. She worked in prestigious restaurants in Christchurch, Nelson and in Europe, then was the Penguin Cafe’s head chef for five years before deciding to start a family.
She said her catering business started when people rang asking her to cater for their events.
“There are so many functions in the Bay and people don’t know where to go,” said Tash. “I have just done a fifties party, a canapés-style function with canapés for the entree, main and dessert. I have a bowl menu, a mini-meal presented in a variety of interesting vessels, which is something new, and I offer tapas and buffet-style food. There are lots of different options, and apart from weddings or parties, I do afternoon teas, luncheons and corporate meetings.”
Tash’s passion is being creative and producing some morsel that is different from everyone else’s and is, above all, well presented.
“For me, presentation is very important. You eat with your eyes and the taste comes afterwards. I can also help with designing and planning the whole event and I have people I can call on for help with an event. I would love to do a children’s party, and at the moment I am dabbling a bit with cake-making, where I can be even more creative.”
Tash’s menu design is flexible and fits in with her clients’ preferences and dietary requirements.
Tash can be contacted on 525 9292 or 021 2929 492 or contact <tashbatten@actrix.co.nz>.
