Things are going ahead at the Hospice Shop.
The Hospice Shop stocks “almost anything, from something as small as a curtain hook or button to a double bed,” says manager Debbie Baker.
“We’ve been in this building since December 2006 and we got off to a great start, but we had ongoing problems with rainwater leaks.”
They’ve worked hard with the landlord to fix the problems and have finally been able to lay their “wonderful new carpet”.
“It’s made a real difference to the shop. So have the bookcases built by one of our volunteers, John Smith.”
The Hospice Shop is supported by 15 volunteers who do one shift a week, either morning or afternoon, and Debbie says she is grateful for their efforts.
“We can also always do with more volunteers, so if you wish to join our team, please come in and see me.”
Over the last four years the shop has done really well in supporting the Nelson Region Hospice Trust and the wonderful work they do in helping terminally ill people and their families. “Thanks to our customers for their great support and the community for donating things to sell.”
Debbie says the shop has a good loyal customer base, many of whom come in almost every week to check out newly arrived stock or to bring in pre-loved saleable clothing, kitchenware, books, toys and much more.
“We are also always in need of good bedding/towels and bric-a-brac and good saleable kitchenware.”
