“Allow yourself the time to feel fabulous” is the catch phrase at Vanilla, Takaka’s newest feel-good salon, where you can award yourself a bit of pampering.
There you can relish in a facial, pedicure, or manicure, experiment with lash and eyebrow tinting, or tidy up from head to toe with a wax, including, yes, the ultimate—the ouchy Brazilian.
Owned and operated by Jacqueline Harvey, who was born in Takaka, Vanilla aims to provide both women and men with a relaxing, enjoyable experience.
Jacqueline is a beauty therapist and nail technician with 15 years’ experience. For the past four years she has owned the salon Expressions in Nelson and though still working at that salon, she is slowly moving her way back to Golden Bay after a friend encouraged her to come.
Together with co-worker Janie Makey, also from Takaka, Jacqueline offers a refreshing treatment using organic products by La Clinica. Made in Australia, this affordable skincare line is specially designed to counter the effects of climate, especially sun.
Jacqueline developed a passion for taking care of people’s looks from an early age, and speaks with confidence and pride in her ability to make people happy in this way.
The name Vanilla expresses her own sensibilities. “It’s plain and simple and smells beautiful.”
Vanilla is located at 43 Commercial Street. For the time being, it will be open on Monday and Tuesday each week, from 9am to 5pm. By December the salon will be open six days a week, and will employ another staff member from Takaka.
