Electricians Thomas Hack and Mike Brennan say their new company Fuse Electrical is a natural progression for two relative newcomers to Golden Bay.
Both men say they always intended to be in business on their account after finding their separate ways here. Thomas had been his own boss in his native Germany, while self-employment is a new experience for Mike.
Mike is originally from Whakatane and, like Thomas and his family, came to the Bay in search of a “slice of paradise”.
“Going into business is definitely a commitment to the place,” said Mike.
“We think the market can stand healthy friendly and professional competition,” said Thomas, adding that he and Mike would be concentrating on good communication, plenty of feedback and offering choices to the customer, who ultimately has to live with the tradesmen’s work.
“You’re being brought into their private, sacred space,” said Mike. “It’s important to build a relationship with the customer and keep them involved.”
Fuse will operate from a storage space and depot at Unlimited Copies, and Thomas said that they would be able to offer an “urgent solutions” after-hours service via their 0800 888 488 number that would be connected to both electricians’ phones.
“We think there is plenty of potential in the local market, especially for alternative energy systems. There is the chance for people to save quite a lot of money with good planning and the developments in the technology,” said Thomas. “But we’re set up for all the electrical work people need here. We’ve had some really encouraging feedback so far. People seem to like the way we work.”
