Hockey’s champion team decided
Season Champions and Shield holder, Drastix, after a commanding win over Jelly Runners last weekend.
Drastix vs Jelly Runners. Perfect hockey conditions saw a great final match of the season, between Drastix vs Jelly Runners, with the shield on the line. With Drastix only needing a draw to win, Jelly Runners were unfortunately missing a few stars but their young players really stepped up and look to be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
A solid Drastix performance dominated territory and after numerous close attempts, cruel bounces of the ball and great keeping from Ricky, Sam Taylor popped a sharp shot through, to go into the break 1-0.
Solid mid-field defence from Anton and Dean saw off most attacking runs from the Jelly Runners forwards, with the occasional break though skillfully dealt with by Dawn and Craig at the back.
With Drastix leading 2-0 in the last 20 minutes, the Jelly Runners pulled their goalie to boost the forwards resolve. Unfortunately the plan backfired, with the Drastix forwards popping two more quick goals in before the whistle, cementing the title of Season Champions
A great game played in great spirit, should have been a bit tighter then the 4-0 score line suggested.
Rogues vs Hoihos. An interesting game which saw the Rogues win 2-0.
Final points were: Drastix 12; Rogues 9; Jelly Runners 8; Hoihos 7.
Thanks to everybody for another great Hockey season, unfortunately the rough start from the weather didn’t help anybody with rusty skills and low fitness levels.
